How to: Troubleshoot USB Issues

USBs are protected by copyright software that prevents users from removing, copying, or editing the contents. This article outlines steps to troubleshoot common issues, and determine if a replacement is needed.

Common USB Issues

  1. Unable to Remove or Edit Files:

    • The protective software installed on the USB drives is designed to prevent any files from being removed or copied to other devices, ensuring the integrity and security of the content. However, users can still print the written materials directly from the USB.
  2. USB Not Playing Properly:

    • Many problems occur because the protective software or security applications installed on company computers may interfere with the proper functioning of the USB drive.
  3. USB Replacements:

    • USB replacements are not automatically provided. USB drives that show signs of tampering, such as attempts to alter or delete files, will be evaluated individually for replacement eligibility. Please submit a ticket to verify your eligibility, and our team will assist you with the replacement process.

Troubleshooting Steps

Step 1: Determine if the USB Worked Before

  • Has the USB drive worked prior to this issue?
    • Yes: Has your company recently installed any new software that might conflict with the USB? It's possible that security software is preventing the USB from functioning properly.
    • No: If this is the first time using the USB, proceed with further diagnosis.

Step 2: Have You Tried Editing or Removing Files?

  • Have you tried to edit or remove content from the USB drive?
    • Yes: Attempts to modify or delete files on the USB may lead to corruption, please submit a ticket and we will assist with and determine eligibility for replacement.
    • No: Continue diagnosing the issue.

Step 3: Test on Another Device

  • Have you tried using the USB on another computer or a personal computer?
    • Yes: If it works on a personal computer, it may indicate that the company’s system is blocking the USB. We suggest contacting your IT department to assist.
    • No: We recommend testing the USB on several devices, particularly a personal computer. If it still doesn't function, please contact our support team for assistance in evaluating whether a replacement is needed.

Step 4: Addressing Software Conflicts

  • If a company-installed program is blocking the USB:
    • If you suspect that protective software is interfering with the USB's functionality, try temporarily disabling it while the USB is connected.
    • We also advise collaborating with your IT department to pinpoint and address any software conflicts.
    • If you can identify the specific software that is causing the problem, please let us know. Your feedback will help us improve our support in the future.
